Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Review

If you’re a fan of Lenovo ThinkPad’s line, you’re willing to deal with a boring industrial design, because the engines are so robust and usable. The new ThinkPad Edge is the first significant change to the look and feel “of the line in years, but fortunately, it retains almost everything you love about ThinkPads.

The design of this ultra portable is still quite conservative, you will not be ashamed to pull it out to be serious in a business meeting. It is just more modern with cleaner lines, a smooth, glossy cover and silver accents along the edges. The cover is glossy surface looks good, but it is a magnet for fingerprints. You could choose for the matte surface if this is an issue (it costs the same). If we would have a nit select the design, it would be the location of the Ethernet jack, which is pretty far toward the front edge of the left. Open the lid and the system has the same basic, utilitarian look of other Thinkpads with a large keyboard and touchpad. But …

Lenovo ThinkPad X301 Review

Lenovo X300 released, which has been a large notebook for those who make their business around ThinkPad. ThinkPad X301 model is nothing but an update for the X300. Of course there are many improvements already made his great predecessor. You can expect great things from the X301.

Design

When it comes to design, the Lenovo X301 not change and has a similar appearance as most of the previous ThinkPad notebooks. It is a common and acceptable design relies more on personal preference. Some think it’s boring, and some people believe they are simply and effectively. It is a matter of opinion or something. However, there is no argument that ThinkPad machines some strong qualities that have evolved from the competition. The keyboard and exterior decks use a new rubberized soft-touch finish, the more a secure grip and feel more comfortable. The X301 has all the regular plugs and connectors with three USB 2.0, Ethernet, microphone and headphone jacks, display port and a VGA port. Unfortunately, no memory card slot with this laptop, you must use a USB card reader or adapter to read from memory means included.

Display and speakers

The X301 employs LED-backlit, 13.3 “(1440 900 resolution) display with a matte finish that most of the glare prevented. Performance

The X301 is not as good for all of its graphics tests. In the 3DMark03 benchmark, the X301 (which has an Intel GMA X4500MHD graphics card powered) netted one in 1812, a score of 400 points higher than its competitors and its predecessor, the X300 is. However, the 3DMark06 score of 200 points less than other machines in its class. FEAR was also tested in the auto-detect mode and the game ran at a tiny 14fps. If the settings to maximum were increased, it was only 6fps. WOW was 27.4fps, which is okay, but it is important to remember that this is not a gaming laptop should be, and not expected to carry out Alienware are, for example.

Lenovo X301′s boot-up time was a little slower than expected. The X300 was released an excellent laptop from Lenovo, but they’ve definitely done a nice job with the ThinkPad X301. They took all the good aspects from the X300 and it was better for the X301. With the new Centrino 2 platform and an ultra-fast 64GB SSD, the X301 comes at a price. If you are looking for an amazing business laptop, but it will not disappoint. One thing we have mentioned, would, however, note that you should invest in a spare battery.

Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 Laptop Review

In many ways, the Lenovo ThinkPad T is the model of the laptop computer. You may want to have any color as long as that color is black and they look and act pretty much all the same. This lack of selection is not as bad directly with systems like the new SL510 ($ 889), a durable, good performance of a laptop that is built for the long haul. This will be exactly the kind of laptop is a small business because it longevity, to ensure that it offers not to turn around and buy a new system again in two years.

Design

Not surprisingly, the SL510 looks just like his previous ThinkPad brothers. It Lenovo signature black design with the red pointer in the middle of the full-size keyboard and two mouse buttons below the spacebar. True, Blu-ray drives are not per se business accessories, but the laptop has indeed had an HDMI port and a Blu-ray player nice perk for those long road trips. Speaking of movies, would be any video of the SL510 is a 15.4-inch screen and its maximum 1,366 x 768 resolution will be limited. I’m really not sure why Lenovo to max screen resolution adopted this low. Previous iterations of the SL500 series went far beyond that threshold. While this is a business notebook with integrated graphics, not intended for gamers, but that never stopped before Lenovo. I could understand it if they tried to keep the prices down after installing a more expensive chip as a Core i7, but the SL510 has only an Intel Core 2 Duo chipset.

The SL510 ships with Lenovo ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery software, a boon for small business. It is very easy to use and allows the user to backup their data and easily restore the system back to a predetermined point backup. I was soon to happen regularly in a position to back up the SL510 and a schedule for backups.

Performance

Since the ThinkPad SL510 is a business notebook and do not come with a discrete graphics card to run I did not bother to our collection of 3D and gaming tests. Not bad for a developed system for spreadsheets and presentations about movies and games. The SL510 also good in our tests, Photoshop completion of the test series in 33 seconds, followed by similar systems such as the HP Pavilion dv6t (1054CL) (37 seconds), close behind solid multimedia laptops like the Sony VAIO VGN-FW390 (30 seconds).

Admirable performance on our benchmark tests aside, Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 has much to offer business users. The HDMI port allows easy presentation and the large keyboard makes the system very easy to type on. Ultimately, the SL510 is a solid no-frills business system, but that was it. The screen resolution is confusing me and I would rather just pay less money for its cheaper sibling, the SL410 with its 14-inch screen, a larger screen as the SL510, that is not as sharp.
