The HP Envy 15 is a high-end notebook that part of a unique HP Envy’s Line. Envy is the line of HP from the acquisition of Voodoo PC 2006, a company focusing on high end, elegant gaming notebooks. Unlike the last generation HP Envy 133, which was thin and light and too weak, the Envy 15 is a gaming and desktop replacement powerhouse masquerading as a super-Stylin ‘, thin notebook – Bringing Back Voodoo Envy that heritage. Of 1.04″ thick Envy 15 features some impressive specifications. Its price includes an external dual-layer DVD burner and a plate-style 9-cell lithium-ion secondary battery when the order, you can omit this, to build to save money or upgrade to an external Blu-ray drive. But we are on the Quick-Ship Model 1150NR which these items belong to us. The Quick-Ship configuration is also retailers like Best Buy and Fry’s in the large metro areas available.
The Envy 15 features Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, a quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU 720QM (Clark Field, the mobile version of Nehalem) is running at 1.6 GHz, 6 gigs of DDR3 RAM, an ATI Mobility Radeon 4830 graphics processor 1 GB of GDDR3 memory (it may provide additional system RAM when more than a gig is necessary), a 500 gig 7200 RPM SATA hard drive, Intel WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth and a full HD 15.6″ 1920 x 1080 display . Really, really nice. As it should be. It competes with high-end machines, which are suitable for serious gaming, like the Alienware m15x and Toshiba Qosmio, but it is much smaller, lighter and chic look for the price. On 5.20. You can actually take this baby on the plane or back and forth from the office and you can take it to a meeting without feeling embarrassed about.

In early press shots and HP videos Envy Envy 15 and the 13 looked like would-be MacBook Pro machine, but in person they have their own look, not like so much more Mac-like HP went with structured metal surfaces, smoked island colors and elegant keypads. The Envy 13 (not a slot machine, but a stylish thin and light) has an edge to glass display (one layer of glass edge sits on top of the display for a single appearance as a touch screen phone or a MacBook Pro), but the Envy 15 has a black bezel (less glare, so I complain not).
The housing is made of magnesium alloy with “HP metal etching” technology. This is not the easiest surface to photograph, but do not worry fellas, it works does not look like a paisley print in person, although some photos on the net, you might think. It is attractive, unique and shows no fingerprints – is not that refreshing? This machine consists of a 6-cell battery and the included accessories disc 9-cell battery is at the bottom. The plate battery weighs more than 2.5 lbs. it is the weight of your rig much, but it still does not weigh as much as competing high-end gaming laptops (and will last much longer on battery with 15 cells in total!). The accessory battery measures about locking front and rear, but if you hard-to-side you can replace it slide a little. A light touch will touch or medium not move, you have put into it some effort. However, we would prefer a more secure locking mechanism. The machine is not enormously thick connected to the battery as you can see in our photos. Windows has separate battery status for the internal replaceable battery and the battery cover accessories, as well as an overall share of the load. It takes about 4-5 hours to charge both batteries when they are complete both low. The plate battery has intelligent monitoring and there is a button you can see Push-to-charge (4 LEDs).

The HP has a Synaptics multi-touch trackpad that will drive you bonkers until you scroll down two fingers on. Trust me to go for the standard edge-scrolling option, and perhaps keep the gesture, turn the two-finger scroll function provides a wonky trackpad. The two buttons are hidden under the trackpad surface. They are there and they are fine with a mechanical click. The dot in the upper left corner trackpad is a static control that the trackpad on and off: Press and hold it for 3 seconds to turn it off on lights (the point where the trackpad is off).
The machine has a beautiful island with keypad buttons for maximum traction, which are easy with no sticky grip. The metal-patterned wrist rest is comfortable and also resists dirt.

What you lack in the name of fashion, slimness and lightness? The optical drive is external, which could be a deal breaker for some people, even if an external USB-powered portable hard drive included (also beautiful). The combined machine is equipped with three USB 2.0 ports, eSATA (with one of the USB ports), HDMI and 3.5 mm audio but there is no VGA port, no Express Card slot, no PCMCIA slot and the card reader is a simple SD MMC job.
The 15.6 “glossy screen is very bright, color saturation, and it has a good viewing angles. The machine has an ambient light sensor, we turned off quickly, because it gives the screen is too dark for our taste (look in Power Settings it is an entry in the display settings for the Power Ambient Light Sensor). HD movies look phenomenal, as well as photos, but glare can be annoying, but often on glossy displays. The cover behind the rear edge of the machine when open and this reduced range of motion for the display – we want to be able to open it, if a little wider sharing of the screen behind us with people.
