Toshiba intros 1.8-inch HDDs with capacities up to 320GB

Toshiba has its line of miniature hard drives with multiple 1.8-inch offering is to be extended with a storage capacity up to 320 GB. The series is MKxx33GSG in 160GB, 250GB available, and 320 GB sizes, each on a two-plate configuration. The drives feature a 16MB cache, 5400 rpm spindle speed and transfer rates up to 830Mb/s.
The company said its latest 1.8-inch hard drives surpass the shock and vibration resistance of its 2.5-inch equivalent. The credit card-size storage devices can not handle operating shock of up to 1,500 Gs and operating shocks of up to 500Gs, marking respective improvements of 50 percent and 25 percent.
The MK1235GSL as a less expensive alternative development, with a single 120GB hard disk installation of data. The components are housed in one case and only 5 mm thick, while the 4,200 revs per minute will accelerate its focus on energy efficiency. Toshiba MK1214GAH current drive offers the same information, but the measures 8mm thick.
During the current 2.5-inch HDD enclosures are available now in a higher capacity, Toshiba’s 1.8-inch hard drives are used in many recent ultraportables or netbooks. The current MacBook Air is only with a 120 GB hard drive, while also expanding the SSD option is only storing up to 128 GB.
