Toshiba produces a surprise at the IFA today, with word of a touchscreen Media Tablet for themselves. The Journe Touch is a high-end Mobile Internet Device (MID) with an emphasis on video playback: This unit is HD video to either a reduced resolution on the display at full resolution, 800×480 or play deals with an HDMI output. The Wi-Fi is in this way, such as surfing the Internet will be secondary to Internet streaming videos from YouTube or the film Acetrax service.
An owner also has streamlined access to Flickr and Picasa for photos and can on Windows Live Messenger through text or voice chat. Facebook access and an integrated RSS reader are also preinstalled.
The Windows CE-MID can also play music and has 1GB of onboard memory plus a slot for SD content. The battery life is on seven hours of music and concise two hours constant web browsing.
Journe Touch deliveries will begin in the fall at an unknown price. A North American version is highly unlikely, as the Journe brand has not yet reached the continent, but Toshiba’s new in the MID category, and does not have plans.
