Lenovo has quietly launched a USB to DVI display adapter on the virtual DisplayLink’s video card promising technology, that up to 1,920 x 1,200 WUXGA-A usgang – support for 1080p high-definition video – over a single USB port. Up to six of the adapter can be used (on a single computer, three, if you have a ThinkPad with switchable graphics) in addition to native machine-video outputs.
As with other systems, DisplayLink, we have seen, requires the Lenovo adapter not restart once connected, supports the full rotation (in 90-degree increments) and 8 – to 32-bit color depth. It is also supplied via the USB bus powered, so no extra power supply needed.
Currently available from its online shop from Lenovo, it’s a fairly simple way to add a few more displays to your notebook. But remember that the virtual graphics card will have an impact on your CPU power, and that impact will only increase if you add more adapters.
