Atom powered X50 from Shuttle

Atom powered X50 from Shuttle

One of the unexpected side effects of the Netbook revolution is the growth of low-cost all-in-one desktop computer, such as the Shuttle X50. In the past, all-in-one systems have their signals from the iMac and tried to cram the most powerful components in a computer that is barely bigger tan a typical monitor. Now we see, inter alia, Shuttle, Acer, Asus, MSI, Lenovo and the introduction of cheap all-in-ones powered by energy efficient (and cheap) Intel Atom processors.

Most of these companies offer some configuration options on these models, but shuttle goes a step further and offers a barebones version of the X50. The PC comes with a 15.6-inch screen 1366 x 768 pixel display and a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom 330 Dual-Core CPU. But you need to provide your own RAM and hard drive.

Of course, there is not much space to play with on the inside, so if you have a barebones system, the space for a specific video card, an internal TV tuner, or other components, the X50 can not be the way to go. SlashGear reports from the barebones version will be available in Europe until the end of the month.
