Jenn over at Pocketables has one of her trademark detailed assessments today. This time, it’s the Raon Digital Everun Note. I had a pretty good idea of how this would go because I folllow Jenn’s Twitter account. If they do not tease me about the weather in Hawaii, they upgrade their device to use. Jenn, I noticed that she unboxing and then complete its review, which told me she was not in the device specifications to begin with. After reading this review, I understand why.
It is not that the Everun Note is not well spec’d. Because it offers a resolution of 1024 600, seven-inch touch screen, keyboard, 8GB SLC and 16GB MLC SSD-SSD and a relatively powerful 1.2GHz Turion 64 X2 from AMD. No, the issues seem to creep by the number of compromises, and mobile technology almost always means compromise. Some examples:
The keyboard has several non-standard layout issues. Jenn, the period and comma keys too small. Most other punctuation keys on the top row. The spacebar is not really respond.
The touch-screen folds back flat, but Jenn find no use for them in this situation. Ask about the lack of a right-turn approach, so that the reference could be in a tablet PC configuration.
The webcam is fully integrated into the device hang, probably because there was no room anywhere else. This provides a less than optimal viewing angle for a video call recipient.
If you have Windows XP on battery, the device under the CPU clocks. Only the full processing power when the AC adapter plugged in large Jenn asks: What is the sense that a powerful CPU, if you do not use while mobile? This too is a compromise between power and mobile power.
