Well, Gadgetell has an early look at the HP Firebird a few months ago, and we have some information that you do not find in the press releases. We spoke with the CTO for HP Global Gaming Business, Rahul Sood, in detail about the Firebird.
He described it as a hybrid desktop. The computer uses some notebook components. The MXM graphics cards use. MXM is a standard and HP laptop with NVIDIA MXM to expand to a larger size. The Firebird has two discrete graphics cards and an integrated graphics card, they can also be “on the fly” to the computer’s power needs.
The Firebird, we have also seen, was 2.5-inch hard drives instead of the 3.5-inch standard is that in most desktop PCs. The drives are easily accessible, but I find it very strange that a computer that in a creative way, the 2.5-inch drives, because they are usually smaller than the capacity in 3.5-inch counterparts.
There is room for external expansion, thanks to the Firebird’s 6 USB ports and 2 eSATA ports. There are no PCI slots or PCI Express slots. That is, if the USB ports are available in handy. There is also an Express Card slot on the back.
The wedge shape is reminiscent of the blackbird, and it is very stylish. Unfortunately you can not just resort to external drives the Firebird because of its shape.
The Firebird is also allegedly very aware of energy and looks forward to the excellent performance without a lot of power. Rahul was very proud of this PC just a 350W power supply. The external 350W external power adapter is about the size of three CD cases.
The liquid-cooled Firebird is extremely quiet. If I had a chance to see, I did not even realize it was on. HP have a winner on its hands. We will see how the public likes it.
