Its quite obvious that netbooks are becoming increasingly popular in recent times. The companies are still essentially the same product in a slightly different form factors, and have been for a while. Because of their relatively low cost and portability, it is really not surprising. But the question is always: How popular are netbooks? How many people actually have them?
According to a study by December 2008 PriceGrabber.com, ten percent of online consumers have netbooks. With the machine is used for little more than a year, that’s incredibly fast growth. Of the owners, most of them also own desktop PCs and laptops, the Netbook third computer, presumably for the size and battery life of devices.
Breaking the study, it shows that 19 percent of the laptop market is now available for netbooks. 12 of PriceGrabber.com ‘s most popular laptops are netbooks, with five of those who Acer products, two of Lenovo, and one from each of HP, Dell, Asus, Samsung and MSI. The market segments, most owners are Netbook near middle age, with more than half of the owners are in the 35 to 54 years old (26 percent of 35 – 44, and 27 percent 45-54).
The fact that netbooks are so far, no real surprise when the fact that Acer holds the second most popular Netbook on PriceGrabber.com is unexpected. The study asked the participants about the issue of the SSD-based netbooks, and only 11 percent said they would definitely a Netbook with SSD and 43 percent say they would, but only if the price falls. Sure, SSD is very expensive at the moment, but it really is a great need for a ton of storage on netbooks? It would be a bit more sense if they are almost exclusively on cloud, with minimal space for the operating system and some important files if the Internet is not available.
